After CES 2023, it’s time to dive into the topics and trends that were showcased. These include wellness, home appliances and smart technology, healthcare and electric vehicles.
1. Cutting-Edge Wellness Gadgets
Wearable gadgets are no longer just accessories to listen to music or receive notifications. Many smartwatches now have the ability to measure blood oxygen levels.
Is 2023 a year for pushing the limits even further? This year, healthcare devices were the focus of CES. We have compiled a short list of the best wellness products that were showcased.
Acer’s eKinekt BD3 desk that combines an exercise station and a workstation was one of the exciting products unveiled by renowned industry players. JBL has introduced Endurance Peak 3 earbuds, which are IP68 certified and resistant to saltwater. They can be used during physical activity.
Other smaller companies have also made notable announcements. Withings, for example, presented U-Scan – a device attached to the toilet bowl that analyzes urine. Alphabeats presented a headband with EEG sensors, which provides real-time data for enhancing focus through music.
MUO was also impressed by a smartwatch and a ring that monitors menstrual cycle. We all benefit from the advancements in technology for health monitoring and enhancement.
2. Electric Vehicles Go Mainstream
Electric vehicles dominated the CES 2023. But there is no emerging technology in this case. Electric cars are hot topics in the current. They’re becoming mainstream and not just for “the general population.”
You can find electric engines in a variety of car designs, from luxury cars like the BMW iX with its changing colors to minivans such as VW’s Id. As more people consider buying an electric vehicle it’s no longer a luxury reserved for small-scale purchasers.
3. Wearables and Phones are Evolving Slowly
CES, the month in which CES occurs, is not known for its big announcements. Those are usually made at the Mobile World Congress in February.
Lenovo made a big splash when it announced its ThinkPhone in partnership with Motorola. It’s not that different from the flagships for 2022, but it promises to have a full connectivity with Lenovo ThinkPad laptops.
Samsung’s next device will be the Galaxy A14. Although it’s not a great deal of money, the specifications are decent. However, the best thing about this device is Samsung’s Mobile Design Language.
TCL has announced the 2023 line-up of smartphones, including three new models. These phones have entry-level processors, RAM and NXTVISION screens, as well as a 50MP camera.
Smartphones are only advancing in terms of technology that has already been discussed. For example, Qualcomm and Bullitt Group, known for their Motorola rugged Defy phones, have introduced satellite-connected smartphones. Qualcomm also collaborated with Iridium, to provide Low Earth orbit service. Bullitt, meanwhile, partnered with Skylo, to connect to different geostationary constellations provided by service providers.
The Wireless Power Consortium, which is responsible for creating the Qi standard of charging, has made an announcement that was inspired in part by Apple. WPC’s governing board will be incorporating what they call Magnetic Power Profile (MagSafe) which is essentially MagSafe on iPhones up until 2020.
Wearables, along with all health-related products from the first category, also got some love at CES in 2023.
TCL announced the RayNeo X2 augmented reality glasses that have speakers on each leg and a 16-megapixel camera. Sony showcased its long-awaited VR headset, the PSVR2, which comes with compatible hand controls.
A number of headphones were introduced at CES 2023. JBL’s Tour Pro 2 features touchscreen charging cases. Urbanista Phoenix has an alternative solar panel. Sennheiser Conversation Clarity Plus includes hearing aids.
4. AI Gets Brighter
The schedule for CES 2023 is not part of ChatGPT’s description of its work. However, this could change. “Artificial Intelligence” was a term that exhibitors were unable to ignore.
TCL’s smartphone line referred above uses it for enhancing photographs, and Govee uses it to connect smart lighting in the home with gaming content displayed on the screen using their AI Gaming Sync Box Kit.
Truekinetix has implemented an AI-powered balance-pedal on its smart exercise bicycle, and Citizen uses AI for health-related information via the CZ Smartwatch.
It improves battery life, increases fan speed, and lowers TDP sent to CPU and GPU.
5. Big Players Bet on Smart Homes
Smart home appliances were the area in which top manufacturers paid most attention at CES 2023. Samsung and LG showed their products, as did Nanoleaf and GE.
LG announced three appliances, including the Minimalist and updated Signature, as well as the ThinQ Up upgradeable model. Samsung also introduced new features for its Bespoke range, such as the 32″ touchscreen refrigerator.
Matter was also a term that was often heard. It is a new standard that has gained momentum at CES 2023. It is compatible with Samsung, GE Nanoleaf and Yeelight devices. Updates for devices that support Matter were also announced. For example, Yeelight is rolling out its Matter integration to their Yeelight Pro line.
6. High-Power Laptops and Gaming Monitors with High Refresh Rate
Several companies have announced their new gaming products at CES. The companies will introduce monitors, laptops and desktops. Most of them have high-refresh rates.
Alienware M16 and M18 laptops can achieve 480Hz but at the cost of reduced resolution. Displays that are capable of being refreshed at this speed include FHD. Razer Blade’s Blade series aims for QHD at 240Hz.
Monitors, on the other side of the coin, make things more crazy.
LG chose a moderate path by launching 240Hz, but OLED and 27″ QHD. You can also choose a 45″ WQHD that has a curvature.
In terms of size and display technology, Asus offers similar products to LG. Its ROG brand went a step further and released a gaming screen that runs at 540Hz. Dell’s gaming division promised a 500Hz gaming monitor in 2023.
Samsung, although not playing the refresh rate games has some interesting options. Odyssey Neo G9 Odyssey Neo G9 has a 56′” curving screen with a 32:9 aspect ratio and dual-4K resolution (7.680 x 2.160). The OLED version is smaller at 49” but offers true black due to its quantum dots OLED screen. They both refresh at 240Hz.
7. TVs & Displays to Suit All Tastes
There are panel systems for those who do not require high refresh rate.
Samsung ViewFinity’s S9 is aimed at creative professionals and has a color calibration engine that covers 99percent DCI-P3 spectrum. TVs are available up to 140″ in size with a resolution as high as 8K, Matter support and integrated social features.
LG decided to go with a different approach. It comes with an AV Box that transmits 4K video in 120 Hz quality to the screen. There is only one cable that connects to the screen.
Roku announced its own television line, which surprised everyone. It seems that the company’s main strategy for 2023 is to rely less on third party companies in order to reach consumers.
Samsung’s concept panels are a bit further away from consumers. There are three screens in the Flex line: one rollable screen for laptops and two foldable screens designed for tablets. Another display is the 2,200-nit HDR for smartphones. This is expected to be available within the next few weeks.
8. Good Old Computers Learn New Tricks
What remains of the popular, well-known computer model in the face of all these unique trends? Quite a lot.
Chromebooks are gaining ground on Windows laptops. HP launched a ChromeOS version of their Dragonfly Pro Laptop. Even Acer showed a Chromebox that can be mounted onto a monitor.
The rise of ultra-thin notebooks is another trend. Laptops are getting thinner and lighter, but they are also losing some performance. LG announced its Gram Ultraslim laptop at CES 2023. It is 10.99mm thin and weighs 998 grams. Sony Vaio and HP joined in the celebrations with their SX14. Asus and Acer with Swift Go and ExpertBook B9 were other participants.
Many laptops are now equipped with OLED screens, either as standard equipment or as an upgrade. Displays that display the true black color have become more popular in recent years for laptops aimed at the mid-range and even flagship market.
Lenovo has announced the Yoga Book 9i. It is a dual screen laptop with two 13.3″ screens, unlike other folding laptops such as the Asus ZenBook 17 Fold or Lenovo’s ThinkPad Fold. The laptop comes with a removable Bluetooth keyboard. It was also included in our list of the top 10 laptops expected to be on display at CES 2023.
CES Keeps Fueling Innovation in 2023
CES is a great way for tech enthusiasts to start the new year. Some categories, such as smartwatches or mobile phones, may seem stagnant. Other, like AI and health technology, are flourishing.
Many of the ideas presented at the show will become reality in the months to come. If someone believes that technology can solve a problem, they will find it on the CES floor.
